The Occhio stool depicts a section of the face of Lina Cavalieri, a key source of inspiration to Fornasetti throughout his life. He first encountered the visage of the opera singer while leafing through a magazine from the 19th century and was immediately transfixed. For the rest of his life, she remained a constant source of inspiration to him and the basis for hundreds of his designs. He once described her as the quintessence of classic beauty, comparable to the Mona Lisa.To this day, the stools are made and decorated by hand in the Fornasetti studios.
