iittala bird by Toikka, AMERICAN KESTREL
Only 300 of the iittala Toikka American Kestrel have been produced especially for the Museum of Glass, making this numbered bird a must-have for collectors. The American Kestrel is the most common and smallest Falcon found in North America, but it shares many of its features with the larger birds of prey in its family. These included its long, square-tipped tail and slim, pointed wings, which artist Oiva Toikka mirrors beautifully in his glass rendition. Perhaps the most striking feature of this bird, however, is the rich pink, purple, and blue coloring. They seems especially vivid in contracts to the clear, dotted glass that iittala's glassblowers have meticulously handcrafted, making each a unique piece of art.
